Engineering for a large-scale expansion of a steel rolling mill.

For a leading European producer of thin steel plates, R-Tech Design was engaged as an engineering partner for a large-scale expansion project with an investment value of approximately €40 million.

The project encompassed the digital surveying of the existing installation, the coordination of the central 3D model, and the engineering of the connecting piping systems. Thanks to our integrated approach, all parties involved were able to collaborate efficiently based on a single reliable digital environment.

Our contribution

Within this project, R-Tech Design was responsible for:

The challenge

Accuracy is essential when expanding existing steel production facilities. New installations must integrate perfectly with the existing infrastructure, while production remains operational as much as possible.

By using 3D laser scanning and a centrally coordinated 3D model, all engineering partners had access to the same up-to-date project information. This allowed clashes to be detected early, design changes to be processed efficiently, and execution to be optimally prepared.

In addition, we carried out the engineering of the connecting piping systems, including the necessary piping supports, hydraulic stress analyses, and production-ready isometric drawings.

From engineering to execution

After the engineering phase, the technical specifications were drawn up and distributed among the various construction companies involved in the execution.

By combining engineering, documentation, and coordination, efficient collaboration was achieved between all disciplines and executing parties.
